Guns of Navarone

Ska / Rocksteady

Biography

Formed in 2007, the group has brought together talent from all over Massachusetts for the singular purpose of breathing new life into some of the best the music of the 1960s. Precursor to the 70's international reggae splash coming from Jamaica, was ska, and its dancehall hybrid rocksteady. Ska, although popular in the UK in the sixties, unfortunately did not reach wide-spread attention until the Two-Tone off-shoot of the punk movement 15-20 years later. Guns of Navarone, were named in homage to the instrumental movie theme of the same name popularized by the legendary Skatellites. This large ensemble, features along with the standard guitar, bass and drums, a three piece horn section, keyboards, added percussion and dynamite vocals. In the words of the Worcester Magazine, "The Guns' style of musical expression features a core of early rocksteady reggae and pays tribute to old-school ska." This music is made to be danced to. Do yourself a favor and groove.
