Amy Denio, Jessica Lurie & Ken Field: One Time Trio

alternative sax trio

Biographies

A rare collaboration between three uniquely creative talents based in Seattle, Brooklyn, and Boston, this trio last performed together under Field's leadership at Seattle's famed Bumbershoot Festival a decade ago. This evening will feature improvisations with three saxes, clarinet, vocals, percussion, and other surprises.

Amy Denio (rhymes with ‘Ohio’ or ‘gennaio’) is a multi-instrumentalist composer and singer based in Seattle, WA. She has been creating & producing soundscores for dance, theater and film since 1983. She has received grants and fellowships from NEA, Meet The Composer, Civitella Ranieri, Seattle Arts Commission and many more, as well as touring solo and with ensembles include, but are in no way limited to, Fred Frith and Bill Frisell.

Jessica Lurie’s vocal prowess and skills on the saxophone and flute have garnered rave reviews internationally. A renowned composer, performance artist, and woodwind-er now living in Brooklyn, Lurie leads the groove/jazz ensemble Living Daylights, with whom she's toured widely. Her music has incorporated elements of Sicilian dialect, deep grooves, and sound that reflects the heat of the American south.

Local czar of the bizarre, Ken Field is a composer, saxophonist, flautist, and percussionist. His solo work, and his work with Bridgman/Packer Dance and groups such as Birdsongs of the Mesozoic, Willie Loco Alexander's Persistence of Memory Orchestra, and his experimental brass band the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble have received international public andcritical acclaim. Field has composed a number of pieces for the children's television program Sesame Street. His 1999 solo release "Pictures of Motion" featured performances by Denio and Lurie.
